The R-460AM Radio Relay operates in NATO frequency Band IV, providing high-capacity (up to 600 Mbps bidirectional) and secure packet-based communication over distances of approximately 40 km, when deployed on appropriate masts. In this frequency band, the radio relay supports MIMO operation using dual-polarized antennas, which enables the achievement of such high data throughput.
The system is also equipped with a time synchronization mechanism, which, when integrated with a time server, ensures high timing accuracy—critical for the operation of systems such as Passive Location Systems (PLS).
A key feature of the R-460A Radio Relay operating in Band IV is its capability to function in a multi-channel mode using Switched Beam (SB) antenna technology. This mode enables simultaneous connectivity from multiple directions by R-460A relays equipped with directional antennas or operation in a radio relay mesh (“grid”) using SB antennas. This capability makes the R-460AM suitable for building Integrated Fire Control Networks (IFCN) within the IBCS (Integrated Battle Command System) architecture, which is employed in the WISŁA/NAREW Polish air and missile defense systems, incorporating PATRIOT missile launchers.
The R-460AM is fully integrated with the IBCS system and serves as the primary communications node for network connectivity within this architecture.
The R-460AM was developed as a High Capacity Line-of-Sight (HCLOS) radio relay system, enabling the establishment of stable, broadband point-to-point and point-to-multipoint links under demanding operational conditions.
The Radio Relay belongs to the latest generation of systems based on Software Defined Radio (SDR) architecture, allowing for software-based configuration of transmission parameters, including modulation schemes and operational modes. It is equipped with advanced transmission security algorithms, providing resistance to jamming and protection against data interception.
The R-460AM consists of two main components:
- R-460A-RFU-IV – Radio Frequency Unit for Band IV
- R-460A-BBU – Baseband Unit (control and interface module)
All Transbit devices have been developed in accordance with the requirements arising from the Defense Standards of the Polish Ministry of Defense – corresponding to the US MIL-STD.
